Tork in the UK’s National Health Service
Tork hand towels and toilet tissue are used extensively in hospitals throughout the UK.
Tork won its first contract with the country’s National Health Service in 2002 following a rigorous selection process. Tork tissue products were found to perform to a high standard in terms of softness, strength, quality and cost-effectiveness.
The NHS, a government-run organisation that provides UK residents with
free healthcare, employs more than 1.3 million people and is one of Europe’s largest consumers of tissue.
The best selling Tork product within the NHS is Tork Advanced zigzag-fold. These hand towels account for nearly half of all disposable towels sold into National Health Service hospitals via the NHS Supply Chain.
“It is a combination of competitive pricing and extremely high performance that makes the towels so popular within the NHS,” said SCA Tissue Europe key account manager healthcare Paula Howard. “Tork Advanced zigzag fold hand towels are highly absorbent compared with others in their class and they make an excellent general purpose hand towel.”
Tork Advanced zigzag fold hand towels are used in general wash stations and patient washrooms. In hygiene-critical areas such as intensive care units, Tork Premium interfold hand towels tend to be preferred. The softness of these towels helps to encourage good hand hygiene since they are highly absorbent and kind to the hands.
Tork Advanced flushable towels are widely used in older hospital buildings with unreliable plumbing systems. Tork Advanced flushable towels are designed to come apart quickly in water after drying and are used wherever toilet blockages are a hazard.
Other Tork products in use within the NHS include Tork jumbo toilet rolls, Tork mini jumbo rolls and Tork folded toilet paper and facial tissues in three pack sizes.
