EU funding for environmental project
SCA, Akzo Nobel and Chalmers university of technology have been granted SEK 10m altogether to show how company cooperation can support sustainable value chains. As a result, the environmental impact of businesses will be reduced.
The European Commission has approved funding for eight Swedish
projects under the first call for the LIFE+ programme (2007-2013), the European fund for the environment. Altogether, Swedish projects were granted SEK 120m in this first round.
The aim of this project is to develop a framework on how companies which cooperate with suppliers and customers may achieve a common view on sustainable development and thereby improve cooperation, trust and communication. The project will start on January 1 2009.
“A major part of the project deals with communication,” says Ellen Riise, Senior Scientist, SCA Personal Care. “We contact customers and suppliers to discuss our approach to and goals with sustainable development.”
“Every step in the process begins with us trying to understand what the customers need. We cooperate with our suppliers to offer the customer a product according to its needs, and with reduced impact on the environment. Environmental impact is always regarded from a life cycle perspective and we use Life Cycle Assessments to measure the results.”
